Hotel & Travel Senior Discounts
Last updated 2026-07-15 · Offers change — when in doubt, call your local store and ask.
A little gray hair can go a long way at the front desk, the rental counter, and the ticket window. Most major hotel chains, several rental car companies, Amtrak, and even some cruise lines quietly knock money off the regular rate once you hit a certain age — you just have to ask for it or click the right box when you book. Always bring ID, and call ahead when you can, since rules and availability vary by location.

Most senior discounts are not automatic — you have to ask. A polite
"Do you offer a senior discount?" at checkout is the highest-paying sentence in retail.
Tips
- Always ask for the senior rate by name when booking by phone — it isn't always shown automatically online.
- Bring a valid photo ID to check-in or pickup; nearly every one of these discounts requires proof of age.
- Senior hotel rates usually can't be combined with other promo codes or reward-night bookings, so compare the final price against your usual member rate before committing.
- For hotel chains, an AARP membership discount and the chain's own "senior rate" are often two separate offers with different ages and percentages — it pays to check both and book whichever is cheaper.
- Cruise line senior fares are inventory-limited and not advertised on every sailing; you may need to search a dedicated seniors page or call to find one.
- Rules, ages, and percentages vary by location and change over time — always confirm current terms directly with the hotel, rental counter, or airline/rail agent before you travel.
